On Friday, January 4, 2013, Ed Braddy filed paperwork with the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections to join the race for Mayor of Gainesville.
As a Gainesville City Commissioner from 2002 to 2008, Ed Braddy chaired the Public Safety and Regional Utilities committees and served on numerous other boards such as the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization and the North Central Florida Regional Planning Committee. Since his time on the commission, Ed has served as executive director of the American Dream Coalition, a non-profit organization that promotes freedom, mobility and affordable homeownership. He has also co-hosted a local talk radio program, Talk of the Town, that discusses local issues on WBXY-FM The Star 99.5 fm. Ed Braddy currently works at Santa Fe College.
“These are tough times for a lot of folks in our community,” Braddy said, “and the incumbent mayor seems indifferent to these everyday realities. I will bring fiscal discipline to City Hall and put the needs of the people ahead of the elite and expensive visions of the political establishment.”
In the last five years, Ed Braddy has worked with elected officials and community leaders in many cities around our state and across the country to identify and promote cost-effective solutions to current problems. Ed has published in national journals and testified on growth management, transportation, and property rights issues with audiences ranging from state officials to think tank scholars to grassroots activists. In other words, Ed Braddy has the skills, insights, and experience needed for this position.
